Inland Revenue and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment will "reluctantly hold a second day of strike action today".
Members will walk off the job at 1pm for a two-hour stoppage - the second industrial action after the strike held on July 9.
Rallies will be held in towns and cities across New Zealand, while some centres have opted to do community-based work for the period of the strike.
"We very much hoped we would not have to hold this second day of action, but our negotiations with MBIE and IR have made insufficient progress," says PSA National Secretary Glenn Barclay.
"We're asking for fair pay systems and a modest across-the-board pay increase.
"We're not asking the government for a handout, because we believe these two employers can afford it out of their existing baselines."
PSA National Secretary Erin Polaczuk says this is a last resort for union members.
"Our members are very reluctant to take strike action, because they know it will cause disruption.
"But they deserve better than this - and we're asking the employers to come back to the table ready to negotiate properly."

A 2 hour stoppage over lunchtime is barely enough time to watch a movie on their $140k bespoke curved plasma TV, let alone get your hair done with their Vidal Sasoon hair straighteners.

Does that mean we will have to wait even longer for someone to answer the phone?

Considering that it was recently announced that public servants will soon be recieving the “living wage” they’ve got a darned cheek going on strike. Not to mention that they give no quarter to those they deal with over innocent mistakes, and even ones of their own making ie sending out incorrect forms/giving wrong advice. In situations like these its the individual taxpayer who is made accountable often with crippling financial penalties applied. Instead of striking give us a proper and just service IRD, and wait for your living wage as we have to when it’s you owing us money.
