The investigation is continuing into the shooting at an address on Matthews Crescent, in Melville this morning.

Twenty-three year-old Robert Nelson, from Hamilton, died from injuries sustained during the incident.

Detective Senior Sergeant Ross Patterson says this has come as a shock to his family and friends, who are being supported by Police and Victim Support.

"The two other victims, who also suffered gunshot wounds, remain in Waikato Hospital," says Ross.

"The man is in a critical condition and the woman is in a serious but stable condition."

Police have today been at the scene and making enquiries as we work to piece together what has occurred.

"We are still working to identify the offenders and would like to hear from anyone who was in the area or who saw anything suspicious.

"Initial enquiries suggest that this house was targeted and there is no indication that there is a risk to the wider public.

"It is not yet known what the motive was behind this incident and we are keeping an open mind at this early stage in the investigation."
