Fine day with light southerlies

In today's weather we are expecting a fine day with light southerlies.

It's a three-clothing and one-windproof layer day today with a high of 15 and an overnight low of three degrees. Humidity is 96 per cent.

High tide is at 10.10am and low tide is at 4.20pm. There's a sea swell of 0.1m with a sea temperature of 15 degrees. Sunset tonight is at 5.04pm.

If you're going fishing the next best fish bite time is between 3 and 5pm.

In NZ history on this day in 1963 a DC-3 crashed in to the Kaimai Range.The crash of the National Airways Corporation DC3, with the loss of all 23 people on board, remains the worst air accident within New Zealand.

In world history on this day in 1790 in Paris, the Marquis de Condorcet proposed granting civil rights to women. In 1844 American ambassador Caleb Cushing successfully negotiated a commercial treaty with China.

In 1903 the first cable across the Pacific Ocean was spliced between Honolulu, Midway, Guam and Manila. In 1954 food rationing ended in Great Britain almost nine years after the end of World War II.

Today is the birthday of English poet, dramatist and literary critic Edward Young. Born in 1683 he once said "Procrastination is the thief of time."
