Stolen vehicle in police chase

Five people are likely to face charges following a police pursuit from overnight.

Five people, including a 13-year-old, have been arrested after fleeing police in a stolen vehicle.

Police noticed the vehicle, which had been stolen from Auckland, on River Road in Hamilton about 11.40pm.

The driver failed to stop for police and a pursuit was initiated heading north on to the Waikato Expressway, says Senior Sergeant Will Loughrin.

'The Police Eagle helicopter took over keeping sight of the vehicle, at which point the pursuit was abandoned.

'Road spikes were successfully deployed, and the fleeing driver eventually stopped near Ararimu around 12.25am.”

The five occupants of the vehicle, all male, were taken into police custody in Manukau.

One is a 16-year-old from Hamilton, the others are aged 13, 15, 17 and 21 years and from Auckland.

Charges are likely, says Will.
