State Highway 2, through the Waioeka Gorge, will remain closed following an alarge slip,

The NZ Transport Agency ithe road will remain closed until further notice, due to a significant slip located between Oponae (Waiata Rd) and Wairata (Wairata Rd).

"Contractors are on site clearing the slip, and geotechnical engineers are currently assessing the stability of the site.

"Until those assessments have been competed it is too early to predict when the road will be able to be safely re-opened to traffic," says a statement from the roading organisation.

"We will continue to provide updates on our social media and the NZTA website.If traveling we ask motorists to use a SH35 as an alternative route or delay travel.

"The NZ Transport Agency thanks road users for their understanding and patience."
