Police have arrested a person in relation to a group attack in the Bay of Plenty earlier this week.

The 47-year-old man is facing one charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in Rotorua District Court on July 2.

The charge comes following a police investigation into the attack at 8.50am on Old Taupo Road in Rotorua on Monday.

Police say a number of men thought to be gang associates got out of a vehicle and chased another man back to his van, which was stopped in the opposite lane.

'The group attacked both the man and his van before everyone involved drove away,” police said in a statement released following the incident.
