The Farmlands Co-operative Baywide Club Rugby competition is moving towards the business end of the season.
The top eight will make up the premier one competition.
The bottom four combine with the top four of division to compete in the premier two competition. And the remaining eight teams play off in the completing the Division 1 competition.
Rotoiti kick-off the second round at home hosting Tauranga Sports at Emery Park. Tauranga Sports won 58-18 in round one. But Rotoiti has been on the improve, and is expected to be much more competitive this weekend.
Rotoiti head coach Richard Francis wants his side to focus on their discipline in order to deliver a positive performance entering the second round.
Tauranga Sports coach Euan Mackintosh dismisses his sides earlier walloping of Rotoiti.
'Round one finishing positions don't mean anything going into round two so there will be no more easy games. Any one of the top eight teams is capable of beating the others on any given day.”
Rangiuru moves into premier two competition this weekend after sometime out of this this level rugby. And it will face a stern first challenge from Ngongotaha which has grown throughout round one of the premier competition.
Rangiuru coach Simon Rolleston has identified defence as a key contributor to their performance.
Ngongotaha coach Jodie Wharekura is aware of the unknowns the division one sides present as they progress into the premier two grade.
'We need to respect our opposition and start well,” says Jodie. He wants his side to be patient when in possession and be mindful with option taking.
'If we continue to improve our team culture who knows what's ahead for us.”
Ruatoki squares off with Papamoa in the division one draw. Ruatoki head coach Mark Pouwhare wants his forwards to deliver a strong performance.
'We will be looking to dominate up front against Papamoa - hopefully getting good front ball for our backs to score some good tries out wide.”
Pouwhare has a goal in mind. 'To make the top four and hopefully the final. That is our motivation.” But they will have to overcome what Papamoa coach Paul Sloane hopes will be a disciplined performance.
'Discipline in defence, keeping our line intact. Likewise on attack, we need to be disciplined in keeping to structures and patterns which has been lacking,” says Sloane.
'As a team we will be looking to travel well then start well, and then to make sure we stay in the contest for the 80 minutes. It's easy to talk about, so our challenge is to get on the same page and action our plans.”
