Police called to possible shooting

UPDATED 6.10PM: Police say officers, including members of the Armed Offenders Squad, are in the area making enquiries to establish exactly what has taken place.

"At this stage, no information has been confirmed," says a spokesperson.

"We will continue to provide updates as we can."

EARLIER:

Police have been called to an incident in Putaruru that may be a shooting.

Police have tweeted the following: "Police are currently responding to an incident in Putaruru. We were called at 4.45pm and are currently en route to the scene."

It is understood that the incident is near the marae on Domain Road.

Michael Flaws from business Kiwi Lumber on Domain Rd told 1 NEWS a person came onto the property claiming there were gunshots at a nearby marae.

A person who messaged the SunLive Facebook page also says Harris Road and Domain Road have been blocked off.
