Police are on the hunt for a man who robbed a pizza store armed with a hammer.

At around 10.45pm on Saturday night, the Papamoa Domino's Pizza store was robbed.

The offender, a man wearing a grey hoodie and a black pants, allegedly threatened the single store attendant with a hammer.

The victim was not injured, but the man left the store on foot with a quantity of money.

The offender then allegedly walked into a nearby residential area and then left on a pushbike.

Bay of Plenty CIB have been at the scene this morning conducting a scene examination and interviewing witnesses.

'We would still like more witnesses to come forward. If anyone has any information, they are encouraged to contact us as soon as possible,” says acting Detective Senior Sergeant Alan Kingsbury.

'Police are concerned that there is a risk to people working in stores and we appreciate any information we can get that may help identify the offender.

'We cannot say if this robbery is linked to the other robberies in the area, as it is early stages in this investigation.”

People with any information can call the Tauranga Police Station directly on 07 577 4300, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
