The traffic lights at Totara St appear to not be functioning.

A caller to the 0800 SunLive hotline says the lights are currently not working.

"The lights at Totora and Maui St completely out and not working."

A council spokesperson was able to confirm that the lights were out and says a team is working to get them fixed.

"We're asking people to take extra care driving along Totara Street over the next few days.

"Traffic lights at the intersection of Totara Street and Maui Street were struck by lightning early this morning.

"Contractors are working to restore operation but repairs may take several days, depending on the extent of the damage."
