The police national dive squad will arrive in Tauranga this morning as the search for a man missing at Omanawa Falls continues.

Emergency services were called to the falls in the Western Bay of Plenty around 3pm on Sunday, following reports that a swimmer had gone missing.

Police were able to assist two people to the shore, but a third remains unaccounted for.

Access to the falls was limited overnight as a search and rescue operation was carried out to try and locate the missing man.

The operation is expected to resume this morning, with the aid of the police dive squad, says a police spokesperson.

Well this shows stupidity on the highest scale. And just proves a point. There is a reason why gates signs and fences are put out to protect the public. Feel sorry for the family and those involved with the services involved. Cmon joe public use your commonsense.
