CORBET (nee Traill) Lesley Woodwick. Died October 23. 92 years old. Peace at last for my dear, loving, supportive Mum. Going home to her beloved Stewart Island.

THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT MEAN MUCH TO ME.

These are the things that mean much to me:

The view from my house, far out to sea;

The stately grace of the Mollymawk's wings,

And the fragrance of my garden things.

These are the things that mean much to me:

The birds in the bush, and the fish in the sea

The reverent hush of dawn's first light;

Starry skies on a moonlit night.

The bellbird green and the song he sings

And the pulsing music of pigeons' wings.

These are the things that mean much to me:

My humble dwelling, my fuchsia tree;

The friendship of simple, kindly folk,

The memory of words a friend once spoke,

The simple, lovely, homely things,

The peace that quiet living brings.

These are the things that mean much to me:

Friendly old folk – not society

With its frills and rush and feverish life;

They are but ills that betoken strife.

Give me instead, the envy of Kings:

Peace and contentment with natural things

Never forgotten. Your loving daughter Alison.
