UPDATED 8.11AM: A body has been found near Harrisons Cut in Papamoa.

Police say a body was found on Papamoa Beach this morning.

"The body of the deceased was found near Hartforve Avenue, at Harrisons Cut and was reported to police shortly after 7.30am.

"Cordons are in place and police are working to understand the circumstances of what has happened."

Police are blocking off the car park to Harrisons Cut, following reports of a body being found.

It's unclear what has happened, but a caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says police are in the car park.

"It looks like they are looking at a car in the park, but I am not sure why.

"They are stopping people from accessing the car park."

Another caller says a body has been found, but didn't have any other information.

People are advised to stay away from the area, while police deal with what is going on.
