Fire crews have attended an incident at Mount Maunganui Intermediate School, where a skip bin was on fire earlier this evening.

A Fire and Emergency Services New Zealand spokesperson says crews attended the incident just after 3.30 pm.

"Fire crews were alerted to reports of a skip bin on fire at the school.

"Three crews attended the scene and the fire was extinguished.

"There were no buildings involved in the fire."

The fire is not under investigation and the cause remains unknown.

Thus, the bin should have caught fire 2 weeks ago if somebody from the school tipped some "hot" rubbish in the bin ............... Perhaps the Ministry of Education should be providing every school with funding to install a basic CCTV system. $2,500 would do the trick to cover 99% of most school grounds. And for a few $$ they could ALL be monitored from ONE place, via motion activated sensors.
