Labour outlines ‘100 Day Plan’

Labour Party leader Jacinda Ardern has outlined her ‘100 Day Plan’ for government, if elected on September 23. File photo.

Labour is promising to take ‘urgent action' in its first 100 days in office if elected, with leader Jacinda Ardern outlining the party's priorities.

These include expanding support for families and students, making rental homes warm and dry, finding solutions to the mental health crisis, and accelerating efforts to clean up waterways.

'If we have the privilege of forming a Labour-led government after the election, we're committing to 10 priorities during our first 100 days in office along with a range of other urgent work,” says Jacinda.

'New Zealand faces a clear choice on September 23 – another three years where we continue to drift and risk seeing the problems just getting worse, or do we embrace the opportunity to take action and build a better, fairer New Zealand.

'For the sake of so many left behind these past nine years, we can't afford to stick to the status quo. Now is the time to make a choice so we can ensure economic growth goes hand-in-hand with greater equality and we can once again be a world leader, a country we can all be proud of.

'Together we can do this.”

Labour's 100 Day Plan

  • Make the first year of tertiary education or training fees free and increase student allowances and living cost loans by $50 a week from January 1, 2018
  • Pass the Healthy Homes Guarantee Bill so families and all renters can live in warm, dry homes
  • Ban overseas speculators from buying existing residential properties to help take the pressure off the housing market
  • Stop the sell-off of state houses so we can better look after vulnerable families
  • Legislate to pass the Families Package, including the Winter Fuel Payment, Best Start and increases to Paid Parental Leave, to take effect from July 1, 2018, so we can better support families, superannuitants and beneficiaries
  • Introduce legislation to set a child poverty reduction target and change the Public Finance Act so the Budget reports progress on reducing child poverty
  • Resume contributions to the New Zealand Superannuation Fund to help safeguard the provision of universal superannuation at age 65
  • Set up a Ministerial Inquiry to fix our mental health crisis
  • Take the first steps to clean up our rivers and lakes by holding a Clean Waterways Summit of all key stakeholders
  • Increase the minimum wage to $16.50/hour, to take effect April 1, 2018, and introduce legislation to improve fairness in the workplace.

Bury the country in debt and some. Typical. I notice that the water tax and racial handouts from that are not recorded in the top ten? thee will be a huge increase in debt and less houses to rent, guess what happens to prices and rents folks? how naive are people that vote.

WTF?

Posted on 10-09-2017 16:45 | By GreertonCynic

Myopic Right Wingers. Tax is the cost of a social society. ALL of society. I'm more than willing to pay a bit more for a more equal society... And hiding assets in a family trust should be banned.

So far I am trying to work out how much the Government has thrown at votes. It is sooo scary. Is that why Steven has gone to his hole to try and find it.Not roofs on a stadium look after the people.

Remember the past

Posted on 10-09-2017 19:05 | By mikeperro1

I remember getting a tax cut under National, then, on the last day of parliament they raised Petrol Tax. Which now sits at 75%. So much for a genuine government. CHANGE IS GOOD!

News flash ....

After the 2013 LG election, Mayor Corsby announced a "100 days of thinking" the result of that was the idea that the city needed another Rugby Stadium .... like a hole in the head! That like Labours notions of "thinking" are equally well foundered on absolutely nothing and nothing will come of it of any use to the community at all.

100-days of thinking?

To much for most I would "think". espeocally this lot at Labour, the list confirms it all.

Interestingly

I have noticed that the so called leader of the Labour Party does not seem to be leading anything or anybody , whenever the opportunity to speak off the cuff comes along , the prepared speech isn't there and all she talks about is "I want and I will do this and that"... There IS no vision except the want of power, election lies will be discounted as suddenly unreachable in the "first term" ...in doing so insinuating that there will be a second term....SORRY but Kiwis are not that stupid...most of them can think for themselves...by and large they have ditched the unions once compulsion was removed, now its time to kick the unions' party to touch...FOR GOOD.

You say " Tax is the cost of a social society. ALL of society", the last part being most interesting, "ALL" is indeed not the case so your entire point crumbles. Tax is intended to be unbalanced but not unfair, ALLL must pay a share. Where a small section of society pay an excess share then ... "While taking (socialist mentality) from Pauland giving it all to Peter then , you can always count on the vote of Peter!" Understand the problem? Election voter bribes. The simple folk then vote with their feet based on the simple notion of "It want, I get" and so the hole gets deeper.

@ GC - Labor Government reduced the deficit to $0 ?

Posted on 11-09-2017 09:49 | By MISS ADVENTURE

That was in exceptionally good times, and despite their best and wildest efforts at spending they just could not create more debt. When National came back in 2008, the mess was huge, as always Labour gets in during the lolli-pop times and National has to go back in and clean up the mess. However with the wonders of MMP that has not actually been that successful.

Change is good, but not for changes sake, there needs to be a good reason to change e.g. sensible, genuine and more. Not just a change of colour for the sake of it. You should be considering the reality here, the big picture, Labour are in "throw-away" mode, promises and money spends ups like crazy, this will only have one result, dficit. There isnt the money there to do what they say they want to = deficit and debt.

Excellant, and while you are at it remove the special exemptions that Unions stil have politically

It is easy to pick up bits of good that one or other has done or not done. The simple fact si that Labour did significantly reduce the deficit (despite the best efforts to spend huge amounts of money on social misbehaviour). National was effectively voted back in because of the endless waste and carnage resulting from that. Add also NZ would have been a lot better off if indeed Labour had of managed properly the taxpayers monies in these good times. When the GFC hit hard in 2007-2008 Labour went int a tail spin and crashed and burned. The tried and true "bribery-Electioneering" failed them that time and since and rightly so. National has managed NZ well in very difficult times from 2008, no one can deny that except the feeble of mind or the short sighted pelican type voters around the place.

Vote...

@ Number eight, thanks, appreciated but I do not have the gift of the gab so no one would vote for me despite my massive array of credentials. Minib, yes almost all have, the average memory span of a voter is at most the gap between feasts.

Big thinking

Does anyone remember the Nationals Govt Think Big Think Big

Black Budget?

Posted on 12-09-2017 20:55 | By phoenix

Minib THE Black Budget was actually brought in by Labour GVT:s Arnold Nordmeyer . Nothing at all to do with a National led Government. But dont let facts get in the way of a good story.

I was just expressing things that went on in both Govts it is called balance a bit better than been completely biased don't you think?

Then why not say so instead of linking everything with Muldoon. Yes I am biased, making sure people tell the truth.

Hysteresis

Posted on 14-09-2017 09:12 | By Papamoaner

Like everything else in nature, there is always a delay between cause and effect. Sometimes short, sometimes long. Both smart and dumb politicians can exploit that to get credit for the work of a previous incumbent. Or sometimes get the blame. Interesting examples around, like Sir Robert Muldoon, a passionate patriot who copped the blame for some stuff he didn't construct. And Aunty Helen who collected the credit for some stuff she didn't construct. That's politics. As for me, I'm not interested in more Rogernomics, so Jazzyy Cinder can whistle Dixie for my money

@ Minib

Posted on 15-09-2017 14:05 | By MISS ADVENTURE

Agree with you. However Pheonix has an issue, how can you be biased and tell the truth?
