Second ram raid at North Beach

A man has been arrested and stolen property has been returned after a ram raid on North Beach Fraser Cover earlier today. It's the store's second ram raid in two months.

Tauranga police say two vehicles were used, a Subaru Forrester, which was used to smash the way in to the shop, and a grey Mazda.

Police were notified just after 2am and spotted the Mazda and arrested a 32-year-old man – and recovered an amount of stolen stock.

He was to appear in Tauranga District Court today charged with dangerous driving, burglary, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle and failing to stop.

Enquiries are ongoing to locate the other offender and his vehicle, and they would like to hear from anyone who may have seen a black Subaru Forrester in the Fraser Street area around the time of the burglary.

"We're selling hot product and everyone wants it. But too bad for the offenders 'coz we're hot on their tail and we don't really let this get to us. We're just focused on getting back up and running for our loyal customers - spirits are still high" says a North Beach spokesperson.

The offenders, believed to be from a local gang, smashed into the cabinets and took off with watches, sunglasses and clothing.

With two break-ins this winter, the spokesperson says they're on high alert, with ramped up security measures and a close working relationship with police to prevent future raids.

The store is open for trading today.

Any information that could assist with enquiries into this incident can be provided to the Tauranga Police on (07) 577 4300. Alternatively, information can also be provided to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
