Power was cut to some homes until 1am last night in Te Ranga, near Te Puke, after a vehicle collided with a power pole.

Police received reports of the accident on No. 2 Road at around 6.14pm.

A witness who contacted SunLive says two fire trucks and a tow truck also attended the crash, which blocked the road for a period of time.

'There are a lot of speeding drivers on that rural road, which is a major concern,” she adds.

One person was in the car, and was transported to hospital for treatment.

Powerco network operations manager Phil Marsh says around 240 customers were affected by the outage.

'While power was restored to the majority of customers at around 8pm, some remained without electricity until around 1.20am, to allow for the power pole to be replaced.”
