The search is on for the owner of a large brown stallion which has been discovered roaming alone in Whakamarama this morning.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says the horse was first spotted on Munro Road before it bolted across State Highway 2 to Te Karaka Drive where it was eventually captured.

“Police and Animal Control officers managed to contain the horse in a construction site on Te Karaka Drive. The problem is, they don't know who the horse belongs to.”

A police spokesperson confirms officers were called out to re-capture the horse at about 8.35am and have since since left the incident in the hands of the Western Bay of Plenty District Council's Animal Control officers.

Good, it will help pay to revitilise the city
Not good, rates are high enough now
I’m ok with an increase, but maybe not such a big one
