Horse on the loose in Whakamarama

The search is on for the owner of a large brown stallion which has been discovered roaming alone in Whakamarama this morning.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says the horse was first spotted on Munro Road before it bolted across State Highway 2 to Te Karaka Drive where it was eventually captured.

'Police and Animal Control officers managed to contain the horse in a construction site on Te Karaka Drive. The problem is, they don't know who the horse belongs to.”

A police spokesperson confirms officers were called out to re-capture the horse at about 8.35am and have since since left the incident in the hands of the Western Bay of Plenty District Council's Animal Control officers.
