No arrests have been made as police continue to investigate an armed robbery of a Tauranga store.
A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says once police got to the scene, they were asking people to stay away as police dogs had been brought in to track the offenders.
A police spokesperson says the two offenders were men and one of them was disguised with a hoodie.
The scene examination is ongoing.
'We had two people enter the premises, one armed with a machete. They came in behind the counter,” says United Video owner Mike Shepherd.
'One of my staff was behind the counter.”
Mike says he doesn't know how much money they took, he will be going through all that today.

Being a video shop, most of the transactions were done by eftpos and Mike believes they wouldn't have got away with a lot of money.
'They (the employee) were not hurt, which is the main thing.”
As investigators piece together what has taken place, people with information about the crime are asked to contact Tauranga Police Station on 07 577 4300.
Alternatively, information can be left anonymously via the Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 line.

This is both scary and sad, for the owner and the staff member. A machete?! ... how frightening! I hope the scum who did this are caught soon, and get more than just a slap on the wrist by our pathetic justice system!

That there are people out there that think they have a right to traumatize others to get a few dollars. It's a cowardly act to use a weapon and my heart goes out to anyone who has been a victim of such circumstances. I hope the police apprehend them and the courts hand down a stiff sentence.
