Two international volunteers are to spend the next five months working at McLaren Falls as part of an international exchange programme.
Park ranger Gary Borman says the pair is in New Zealand as part of the International Cultural Youth Exchange programme.
'These ones I got this time are from Korea and Denmark,” says Gary.
'The company here is called Aoteroa Cultural Volunteer Exchange.”
ACVE is responsible for running the ICYE in New Zealand.
'They have about 60 volunteers in their system and we are one of their placements. They have placements all over the country,” says Gary.
He says they have been getting international volunteers for at least three and a half years and it's worked really well.
'It takes a little while to get them settled in – they normally come from a big city and are not used to the more physical work we do here.
'They sometimes don't even know what a spade or a rake is because they've never seen one before.”
Gary says when they arrive, he spends the first month orientating them and then it's straight into a 40 hour week.
'They'll spend around five months here.
'They do the gofering stuff for me like picking up branches around the park, helping to clean the free barbecues, looking after the toilets and long drops.”
Gary says the park is 190 hectares, so there is always something for the volunteers to do.
