We all have a story or two to tell about an idiot driver that has cut us off or pulled a dangerous driving manoeuvre out of nowhere.
Tauranga resident Daniel Hines, who is now based in Auckland, is no different.
He has had a few 'near misses” this week, many of which he has caught on his dash cam.
Daniel Hines, who used to work for Sun Media, says the camera was a good investment.
His recent footage, shared on Facebook with the caption "too many idiot drivers out there," shows a driver in Auckland pulling onto a roundabout and failing to giveway to oncoming traffic.

Roundabouts are there to smooth traffic flow, how do we know if Mr Hines had his right turn indicator on as he came around the roundabout? , if so the other driver was well within his rights to go through in the left hand lane...Mr Hines certainly started to turn right in the right lane and then turned back to exit to the left. Dash Cams don't tell the whole story ...they can be edited to lie.

I purchased a dash cam a while back its amazing now that I have one the close calls are far more frequent now then when I didn't have a dash cam ... hahahahaha

Is that horn? I would be ashamed to use that. Dash cams are great.... except when I go to show someone the footage, have to turn the volume down to cut out all the F bombs and so on.... I thought that was pretty mellow that 'situation'? It seemed to me that the dash cam guy was going a bit fast... pretty inconsiderate I thought... and that horn.... ewwww

Show me a driver that hasn't inadvertently 'got it wrong' on occasion, a daydream, a distraction, and I will show you a 'flying pig'. We are human, all of us, and from time to time we ALL get it wrong. That's why it is critical to ensure we drive defensively and when it does go pear shaped, are prepared.

... compared with what happened to me at the Bayfair Roundabout t'other day, when a lady decided to take off into a non-existent gap.Fortunately, my reflexes seem to be as sharp as they were when I was young, and I managed to save her considerable angst!

The police accept dash cam evidence. Regardless of indicators you have to give way to the car already on the roundabout full stop. The car clearly did not. The dash cam footage has the running time indicator in the bottom left hand corner that shows clearly nothing has been edited...
