Police are not laying any charges in relation to an incident where a baby was knocked out of a pushchair in Tauranga on Sunday.

A woman was pushing her two-year-old son in a pushchair across the road at the Grenada St/Girven road intersection, when the child was knocked out of the pushchair onto the road.

At the time of the incident, it was claimed the driver refused to stop and police initially treated the incident as a hit and run.

A police spokeswoman now says the incident was not a hit and run as it first appeared.

'There were very minor injuries and both parties have been spoken to and no charges will be laid,” says the spokeswoman.

The mother and child were both treated at the nearby medical centre, The Doctors Bayfair, for scrapes and bruises.
