It stood 2m high and was a 'chunky” design to counter the wind.
Brett Muir constructed the castle masterpiece from sand on the beach at Tay Street yesterday afternoon.
'Weather was cooler than most people wanted, but it didn't rain which was a bonus,” he says.
'I had to build a bit of a "chunky" castle to counter the wind, but got reasonable high on it.”
Earlier in the morning, a group of youths were also busy working in the sand at the high ride mark.
A hole measuring about three metres across and over a metre deep is now located near the surf club tower.
People who were nearby building sandcastles say the hole was dug by a group of about five youths yesterday morning.
'They kept digging and digging until it was about six feet deep, and then abandoned it about midday,” says one of the sandcastle builders.
As it's potentially a major hazard to young children visiting the beach, the council was notified.
