A car has hit a power pole in Otumoetai, knocking out power to houses in the vicinity of Carlton Street and Emily Place.

A caller to the SunLive newsroom says access to Carlton Street from Ngatai Road is blocked off by police as they deal with the incident, with fire service in attendance.

It is not known if anybody was injured, although the caller says no ambulance was present.
