A total of 52 locals have thrown their hats in the ring for council and community board positions in this year's local body elections.
Broken down: two candidates will campaign for the Thames-Coromandel mayoralty, 15 candidates for five councillor spots across three wards, and 34 candidates will contest for 20 seats across five community boards.

While Coromandel-Colville ward councillor Tony Brljevich was recorded as unopposed and will retain his position when the new council is sworn in following the October 9 elections.
'There's been a really strong turnout of candidates for all our community board positions which just shows how passionate people are about supporting the future of the Coromandel,” says Thames-Coromandel District Council governance manager Angela Jane.
Along with the 52 council candidates, six locals - Mark Alloway, Clyde Graf, Brian Habberfield, Liam Kedzlie, Dal Minogue and Dirk Sieling - have also put up their hand to contest for the Thames-Coromandel general constituency spot on the Waikato Regional Council.
Nominations for council and community board positions with the Thames-Coromandel District Council closed last Friday.
Everyone enrolled on the residential electoral (residents) and the ratepayer electoral (non-resident) rolls will receive their voting papers in the mail from September 16-21.
Voting papers must be received by 12pm on Election Day which takes place on Saturday, October 8.
