Papamoa residents are breathing a sigh of relief after an unexpected power cut left some residents without power before the Super Rugby Final this evening.

More than 220 Tauranga residents who are Powerco users were left without power at 5.23pm this afternoon when they were struck by an unexpected powercut.

Powerco's website says the powercut affected 225 residents in the Papapmoa area and was expected to last until 9.30pm.

But Powerco staff managed to have the power up and running just in time for the Super Rugby final between the Hurricanes and South African side the Lions.
