Family and friends to farewell Kenny

Dearly loved husband, father and friend Kenny McCrae will be farewelled in a private ceremony in Pyes Pa today.

Kenny, who's also known as Woody, died at the scene while Leigh died as a result of her injuries in Tauranga Hospital. A funeral service for Leigh will also be taking in Pyes Pa next Monday.

While Leigh's husband Lance Carter, who was also struck by the vehicle and suffered serious injuries, remains in Tauranga Hospital and is expected to be released later this week.

'Dearly loved husband and soul mate of Sharlene. Loved and awesome dad of Ashleigh,” reads Kenny's funeral notice.

'Loved dearly by his wide range of friends and family and will be especially missed by Mia and Chloe.”

Kenny is also survived by his brothers Howard, Ronald, and Gavin Emeny.

The fatal incident occurred at Maungatapu on SH29A between Baypark and Welcome Bay at 4.15pm on Friday, July 29. Police say a blue Nissan travelling south struck the three people who were attempting to change a flat tyre.

Acting Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager sergeant Wayne Hunter says police are now waiting on blood results to see drugs or alcohol had a factor in the crash.

'We have to collate all the evidence and decide if there was any culpability on that driver's behalf,” says Wayne. 'That's going to be an interesting one.”

'Everyone else managed to miss the people changing the tyre, but she didn't, and were her actions that of a prudent driver, supposed to be aware of her surroundings.”

Drug and alcohol test results take about a month.
