Police are seeking witnesses to a serious assault in the Bay of Plenty.

The incident took place in the Homedale Road Reserve in the Pukehangi area of Rotorua between 11am and 12pm on Saturday July 30.

Police say the reserve is located between Homedale Street and Gem Street.

A man was walking through the reserve from Homedale Street towards Gem Street when he was assaulted by five other men.

The assault involved the use of weapons and the victim suffered multiple fractures as a result, say police.

The alleged five suspects are believed to have then left in two cars, one of which was a green coloured Toyota Celica or Supra.
