One person has been taken to Tauranga Hospital with potentially serious injuries after a crash between a light truck and scooter.

The crash happened at the roundabout where Waihi, Otumoetai and Cambridge roads intersect.

A reporter at the scene says police, St John Paramedics and firefighters are at the scene.

'It appears firefighters are dealing with traffic and paramedics are treating the patient at the scene.

'The scooter rider was being loaded into the back of the ambulance when I arrived.”

Traffic is flowing around the scene, but motorists are being warned to expect delays until the scene is cleared.

Police are investigating the exact cause of the crash.
