Council is searching for an artist to play a key part in Tauranga's Access to Water project and help create public art for this exciting new development on the Waterfront.

Mayor Stuart Crosby says this is the first stage of a process to engage an artist and council is looking for interested people to express their interest in getting be involved.

'This is an exciting stage for the Access to Water project,” says Stuart.

'We are thrilled about the opportunity to work closely with an artist to develop some special public art which we hope will complement the planned physical structures and ultimately transform our waterfront.”

Council is calling on artists to submit examples of their work, as well as a brief covering their background plus proposals of how they might approach the design. No designs are needed at this stage.

The closing date for expressions of interest closes at 9am on Monday, August 1, after which, council then shortlist up to four artists.

A briefing session will also be taking place on site by the Hairy Maclary sculpture on Friday, July 15, from 12pm-1pm.

'Come along to talk to the team about the project and how art is to be incorporated into the development.”

The proposed first stage of providing access to water along the city's waterfront is currently underway and council has recently completed the detailed design.

The aim is for construction to commence later in July, with the stairs, pier and pontoon ready for summer 2016/17.

Yeah right, all built and no where to go, the sea lettuce will stifle any attempt to fish in the Harbour, until they remedy the leaking oxidation ponds and the leaky pipe off Papamoa all will be impossible.
