All things Scottish

Kilts and haggis at the Bureta Park hotel this weekend is all part of the Clan Ross Association's annual ‘knees up'.
Clan Ross Association of New Zealand Incorporated president Paul Anderson, says there is a haggis cutting ceremony at 11am Saturday, plus a specially decorated 20th anniversary cake.

The association was formed in Tauranga in May 1991, with the inaugural meeting held at the historic village.
The gathering's entertainment continues Saturday evening with music by Andy Craw and the Blarney Boys and the Bay of Plenty pipes and drums.
This year, Paul is expecting clan Ross descendants mainly from New Zealand.
'There could be a couple coming from Australia, but we won't know until the day,” says Paul.
The association was formed to preserve the clan heritage and all things Scottish, as well as assisting with, where possible, genealogical research, says Paul.
His ancestors come from the West Coast, who made home there before the gold rush at a settlement called Ross Town.
'It was across the Inangahua River from Reefton,” says Paul.
'It was the original settlement until they found the gold.
'My great grandfather had the boarding house in Reefton. When the miners crossed the Southern Alps the first lights they saw were the lights from his boarding house.”
Clan Ross ancestral home is in northern Scotland, near Inverness.
