Media: down with that?

In Not the News today (content may offend), the KFC Double Down burger, which is arguably not a burger since it does not include one of the standard ingredients to make one – a bread bun, is capturing the imagination of people worldwide.

More incredible than the notion of a bun-less burger is the fervour with which people are taking to the chicken, cheese and bacon wonder.

Video reviews, analyses and graphic documentation of the Double Down are leaking onto YouTube and into mainstream media as news organisations unwittingly end up promoting both the ‘burger' and KFC.

Acting socially responsibly is an often difficult task for media and in the case of the Double Down, its reaction to discussing the lack of nutritional value is only acting as a stimulant for its sales.

By projecting the fast food product and talking about how bad it is nutritionally, it is challenging people to eat one, as the stakes of temptation are raised.

Is it better then to ignore it and have it go unreported?

Maybe it's best to leave it to YouTube and the fat-food inspired projects of the Double Down crazed.

when you look at the nutritional value of this verses a Big Mac or Whopper, then they are all the same. This is no worse for you than the other options

OK lets look at it this way. I will try one of these as I am gluten intolerant. I am always stuck with having to purchase the bun and not being able to eat it. At the moment the only burger that I can pick up and eat that wont fall apart on me is the crispy chicken burgers from Mc Donalds. Chicken no matter how it is cooked is a fatty food. Bread is also bad for you as too much causes weight gain and has more and more gluten added to it. That is why gluten intolerance is becoming more and more common. So bring on the bunless burgers. No money wasted!
