Road closed for 12 weeks

A section of Hillcrest Road in Whakatāne will be closed for a 12-week period starting from Monday, June 13.

The closure affects a section of the road between 30 Hillcrest Road and Waiewe Street in order for contractors to carry out repair works.

While the closure is in place all vehicles and pedestrian traffic travelling to and from Whakatāne's CBD via Hillcrest Road will be diverted via Seaview Road.

Whakatāne District Council Infrastructure General Manager Tomasz Krawczyk says the repairs will include slope stabilisation work through reinforced earth walls, granular pavement construction and concrete footpath with kerb and channel construction.

Hillcrest Road is a highly-used route between Mokorua/Ōhope and the downtown CBD areas so we apologise for any inconvenience caused during this period,” says Tomasz.

'The overall impact on travel times should be relatively minor, though motorists should note that the Seaview Road detour is a narrower route, so motorists should take care when taking this diversion.”

The repair works will be carried out by contractors Tracks Concrete.

From Monday, June 13, a section of Hillcrest Road will be closed for repairs for 12-weeks.
