Thames-Coromandel area manager Greg Hampton is urging members of the public not to enter the top eastern side of the cemetery until the hazards have been removed.
A barrier and signs have been put in place at the site preventing access and more signage will be positioned at the bottom of the cemetery.
The Thames Community Board has approved a budget to fell the dangerous trees and are awaiting contractors to confirm methodology and timeframes.
