Pound puppies need your love

The Thames-Coromandel District Council will be adopting out their ‘pound puppies' to help ease the load on the SPCA.

Council says no matter what dog owners do sometimes pooches will escape by jumping a fence or squeezing through a hole, and more often than not, they end up in their pound.

'If your dog decides to go for a walk alone and has been microchipped we will have your details on file and will call you if our dog control team have picked up your dog,” says council.

'Obviously registered dogs wearing their tag can be reunited with their owner, quickly, sometimes without the need for the dog to go to the pound. This saves money and stress for the owner, the dog and for us.”

All dogs unclaimed from the pound after seven days may be offered up for adoption or may be euthanised if they are not considered suitable for re-homing.

Dogs are temperament tested so that suitable dogs are available for adoption.

If you discover a stray dog call council on 07-868-0200 and a dog control officer will collect the dog and take it to the pound the owner is found.
