Trashed car dumped on Papamoa Beach

A smashed up car, overturned picnic table and green wheelie bins was the sight that greeted people on Papamoa Beach in the weekend.

A Papamoa resident posted her dismay on the Papamoa Facebook page after her walk on the beach in the weekend.

A car, picnic table and rubbish bins were left on Papamoa Beach in the weekend. Photos: Supplied.

'Morning all. I need your help. I'm normally a positive person, today I'm having to work on it,” the post reads.

'My morning walk on the beach greeted me with strewn wheelie bins, a picnic table trashed and burning and a car wreck that is still there from a week ago.”

With the help of someone else, the resident dragged the wheelie bins off the beach.

The car is also being towed from the beach today.

People who do see trash on the beach, or other areas around the region, are encouraged to download the Tauranga City Council phone app called "Fixit Tauranga".

This app enables people to immediately report the location and issue.

Issues can also be reported to Tauranga City Council on (07) 577 7000.

As someone said of a FB post, take it away to the scrap yard and give the money to the Surf Club, if there is any left over from towing charges.

One would have thought that with all the hi tech computers in the system that the owners of such a vehicle could be found within a very short space of time - they would certainly find you if you owed them money!

Wow...

Colleen...If the car has been stolen and joy ridden then dumped... I think the owner might disagree with you there. Generally people dont dump something that can be traced to them, so it would be my guess that the owner was not responsible, so why should they loose thier car? I am glad you arent in charge lol

More to this story

Police are aware of who had the car, it was stuck after a women panicked when a male approached her in a threatening manner. A male was arrested near the Surf Club, as for the owner of the car I believe she was a homeless person living in car and the car was trashed when she wasn't there.

Yes you are absolutely correct, it was remiss of me to think that a car that had been dumped had not already been checked out by the Police. I am also saddened to read that a homeless woman was living in the car....and threatened....the real story comes out in the end....

Someone knows for sure

We aren't hearing the full story. Agree with Rastus.
