In response to Barry Walker 18 March 2011. Totally agree 'horrendous waste of taxpayers money due to abortion of census”, now being reconsidered. In reference to your remark 'the many Maori tribes who have been paid multi-million dollars from tax-payers in compensation.” Know that the South Island alone, is worth over 20 billion dollars, so the 187 million peanuts really, they (Ngai Tapu) deserve more, not to mention the generosity they displayed by returning Mt Cook to the people of New Zealand, we don't deserve it if we possess a mindset alike.
Also: In response to Maureen Anderson 18 March 2011; 'Act promotes racism and apartheid.” Maori have suffered through most acts passes through parliament, some overnight even. Most acts are designed to keep Maori shut out of everything and off their property. Maori have, and still live with racism and apartheid e.g. Supercity Council, rugby, media, government, to name a few. This 'marine and coastal bill”, does indeed give a few rights back to the original owners (Maori) of this country, the Maori Party had to trade off something in return, something that will bring more hardship to Maori, that's politics for you!
On the other hand, many Maori oppose this bill too, those who live and practise the principles of sovereignty. These people simply want their property back. Maori have never extinguished their 'Title to ownership”.
The rangatira (youth) will serve justice upon us all, and when that happens, this 'bill” won't be worth the paper it's written on.
Marj Hona, Katikati.
