T. Kapai's letter (The Weekend Sun April 8) with regard to the proposed dredging of our port, is spot on. It is far more important that we deal with the input factor.
Recently, I heard a discussion on Radio NZ National. Ten years ago Raglan Harbour had our sort of problems, but now, with concentrated input, people have turned it all around, and it is replenishing itself.
This appeal against the dredging must not turn into a win lose battle, but rather it should start to highlight the above situation, and show Tauranga Moana iwi, and indeed all of us, the real way forward.
While our problem, due to our growth, is far larger than Raglan's, so also should be our determination to fix it. Only then will we truly leave something of lasting value for the generations to come.
R.McGuinness, Tauranga.
