I've just read the Sun Live article on Council's new Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ken Paterson.
It's worrying for Tauranga City to learn he dwells in the Imperial past by advising he has 10 acres of olives at Waihi.
What's 'acres”? New Zealand has been using the metric system since January 1976 when Mr Paterson was 24. Didn't he understand the change at that time?

What a mean-spirited welcome

Assuming this letter wasn't a friendly joke I can think of no ruder way to welcome a new Chief Executive to Tauranga. Presumably under the pressure of finding something for his weekly whine Mr Perry seems to have ignored the fact that most New Zealanders refer to "acres" on a regular basis. I suspect more would call land by the acre than hectare. This sort of criticism would seem nothing more than pathetic pedantry, meanness for the sake of it.
