I would like to add to the 'Bill of Deeds” where numerous projects have been filed through like a procession for many years.
Bill Faulkner said in the editor's note on 1/4/2011 that he did not vote for this or that?
At least nothing much, but the single largest spend up of Council ever is the Southern sewerage pipeline that runs some 15 km from Maleme St to Te Maunga.
Just the pipeline in the ground alone is about $120m (in 2008) when the pipeline actually gets to Te Maunga the plant there has to be extended so another $130m+ and likely a lot more will have to be spent.
This is the mother of all projects and will add hugely to the debt of Council. Know doubt after all the consultants have been at it little change will be left out of $500m or so.
Even if the debt is to be paid from the already very large development and building fees (very doubtful looking at The Lakes) the debt burden will always fall on all ratepayers for decades to come. All it took was 'Yes”from the 'ratepayers champion”.
