A Tauranga judge has delayed the sentencing of Oropi Quarries Ltd and its director to allow for further information to be sought.
The Tauranga company and its director were due to be sentenced in relation to Health and Safety breaches following the death of employee Tane Hill-Ormsby.
The 25-year-old died after being trapped under a 45-tonne rock carter he was driving at Oropi Quarries on Thursday, April 16, 2015.
WorkSafe New Zealand launched an investigation into the incident.
Health and Safety breaches were identified during the investigation, leading Oropi Quarries and its director expected to be sentenced in Tauranga District Court on Wednesday.
However, Judge Thomas Ingram adjourned sentencing to June 10 to enable further financial information to be gathered and presented before the court.

Surely if this is an obvious breach should the operator and director be looking at a more custodial sentence ? or is the death of a young man at work only a matter of a fine ? what value do you put on this ? an accident is one thing but obvious breach is another short cuts taken to improve the profit, more to this story than meets the eye
