A woman is in hospital after her vehicle rolled on a state highway in the Bay of Plenty.

Emergency services were called to the scene on State Highway 30, Lake Rotoiti, yesterday afternoon.

The BayTrust Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to the crash to assist St John Ambulance crews with the injured patient.

'Fire crews from Rotorua attend along with ambulance crews from Rotorua and Kawerau,” says a rescue helicopter spokesperson.

'Several other patients were driven by Ambulance to Rotorua hospital as a result of the mishap.”

A 52-year-old woman from Kawerau was airlifted to Rotorua Hospital in moderate condition with leg injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
