A man running around Tauranga in speedos is the protagonist in Western BOP economic development agency Priority One's latest drive to get skilled people ‘Back in the Bay'.
The speedo starred video is the feature of a viral marketing campaign which began Tuesday morning with its online release to the Priority One email database.
Priority One is using the power of the speedo to attract people to the Bay of Plenty.
In the video, a surf lifeguard hero mobilises across Tauranga to save a person from all the things that are bad about living abroad.
Produced by King St advertising, the online video highlights the best things on offer in Tauranga and some of the business opportunities available as a tool to attract New Zealand ex-pats to the Bay of Plenty.
'We want people to consider Tauranga in the mix and to help make their decision easier with employer contacts and service providers,” says Priority One projects manager Greg Simmonds.
The kinds of services the site assists with are relocation firms, car dealers and recruitment agencies.
The video's filming two weeks ago turned some heads and Greg is hoping for more interest with its release.
'There were some funny looks with the man running around town wearing speedos.”
The video, which is shown below, is live on Priority One's ‘Back in the Bay' website.
To date the site attracts an average of 300-350 people per month from a mixture of about 25 countries.
www.backinthebay.co.nz is not in competition with recruitment agencies, says Greg, instead it is about establishing connections and working with them to improve the skill pool in the BOP.

You realy must be joking Who in their right mind would think this video would entice people back to the Bay of Plenty. If this has 1 rate payer dollar attached to it in anyway heads should roll . We need to know how much this cost because anything over a $1.80 ..Someones been ripped off.
Pathetic

I would hate for anyone to think this was indicative of who we are and where we live - what an abject waste of ratepayer funds - Time our council took a step back from this outfit!
Oh Dear!!
