The Tauranga City Council is seeking some more services and assistance from the community for its Ten Days in Tauranga earthquake relief effort.
This weekend about 180 Christchurch residents are arriving in Tauranga for a 10 day reprieve from the earthquake ravaged city.
Tauranga Air New Zealand Holidays Store is providing $20,000 worth of travel to fly families direct from Christchurch to the Bay of Plenty for Ten Days in Tauranga. Pictured are store consultant Claire Gilbert and manager Rose Chalmers.
The council in coordination with Tauranga MP Simon Bridges and the support of many businesses, organisations and individuals is hosting these people with many activities for them offered free.
However, some more assistance is needed and the council is asking for:
- More transport – either a spare vehicle on loan or the offer to transport a family/couple around while they are here. (All city guests have free Hopper bus passes while they are here, but there are some events and activities that require personal transport.)
- Simple home cooked meals or baking that can be delivered to the host homes or to the motels/cabins of the city guests.
- Offers to take families/couples to activities such as golf, bowls, fishing, shopping, bush walks, morning/afternoon teas or any normal day-to-day activity.
To register offers for any of these needs, email tendays@tauranga.govt.nz or phone the council on 07 5777 000
