Claire Luxton, Papamoa, completely misses the point relating to parking meters.
Mount Maunganui had water meters so the Mayor and Councillors decided in 'fairness to everyone” both Mount Maunganui and Tauranga must have water meters.
Downtown Tauranga only has parking meters. On the basis of water meters being installed in Tauranga under the cloak of 'fairness to everyone”, it is abundantly clear that using the same reasoning, if Tauranga had to have water meters because Mount Maunganui had them, then downtown Mount Maunganui must also have parking meters because Tauranga has them. There is simply no way around it.
I repeat. The 3 most senior local politicians [Mayor Stuart Crosby, Deputy Mayor David Stewart and ex Mount Mayor Wayne Moultrie], all live in and represent Mount Maunganui/Papamoa ratepayers who they keep happy so they will vote for them.
Jan Hill, Tauranga.

I am not sure that your rationale in arriving at your conclusion about water meters is correct. While water meters for a number of reasons have merit like checking usage and water rationing Tauranga City did not need to be foisted with a $20million bill to install them.Every new subdivided section or new residence from 1990 should have been forced to install new meters with the water supply. In new Mount subdivisions meters less than 15yrs old were ripped up and replaced.Parking meters on the other hand are simply revenue gathering tools that TCC is hooked on. There should not be any parking meters in Tauranga or the Mount just rely on realistic parking restrictions properly enforced.
