Free HPV vaccine in Bay schools

Parents across the Bay of Plenty are being urged to ensure their daughter is protected from cervical cancer.

A free HPV immunisations programme is being offered for Year 8 girls at participating schools are being offered free immunisations to protect them against the human papillomavirus (HPV).

HPV causes almost all cervical cancer, says Dr Jim Miller, Medical Officer of Health for Toi Te Ora – Public Health Service.

Jim says the vaccine is safe and very good at preventing HPV infection, and therefore at reducing the risks of cervical cancer for women in the future.

The public health nurses have been visiting participating schools during February and immunisations will begin in early March.

The girls have been given information to bring home to discuss with their parents and caregivers.

'I encourage parents to ensure they have received the consent form from their daughter and to read, sign and return the form to school,” says Jim.

'Preventing HPV helps to ensure a healthier future for young girls and women.

Currently around 160 women get a cervical cancer diagnosis every year in New Zealand, each year around 50 women die from the illness.

'My advice is that you should make sure that your daughter gets the opportunity to reduce their cancer risk for the future.”

If parents would like to discuss or get more information they can speak to a public health nurse on (07) 577 3383 for the Western Bay area, or for the Eastern Bay area call (07) 306 0944.

Alternatively, parents can also contact their family doctor or practice nurse for more information.

Unless you are a medical professional you should not be saying that. Anyone can put up a bs website and claim anything. If this was real and it was proven deadly no govt would endorse it. There are risks with all vaccines but they are less risky than catching the thing they are trying to protect you from in the first place. Just an ounce of common sense would tell you that...

Please read HPV scam

Please do read the HPV scam information, and then you'll realise how bad that misinformation is. If you actually read the scientific info from around the world, you'll learn that the vaccine is very safe and prevents at least 6 cancers. A very very safe vaccine. And yes the females in my home are all vaccinated.

research

Unless proper research is done into the possible side effects and alleged deaths in relation to this vaccine my daughter will not be getting it. Even if there is a small chance that something could happen i will hold off.

What a joke!

This vaccine has NOT been proven to prevent cancer; and it has NOT been proven to be safe! Do yourself a favour and really research this one BEFORE you sign a positive consent form. Visit www.ga-nz.com and read the four most recent blogs that question the science! There are serious allegations being levelled globally.

What are the effects?

Hey Kenworthlogger, what are the EFFECTS of the vaccine? What is in the vaccine that you are shooting directly into the bloodstream of your children? Are there better and more effective ways to prevent cancer? Do you even know the causes of cancer? Do you even know what cancer is?

not a scam
