An Australian man visiting the Bay of Plenty suffered a serious back injury while riding doen an extreme downhill track.
The Tauranga-based Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Rotorua's Skyline Rotorua Mountain Bike Gravity Park yesterday afternoon when the 28-year-old fell from his mountain bike.

Pilot Liam Brettkelly says the man received a serious back injury as a result of the crash.
'He was stabilised by St John staff before being flown directly to Auckland's Middlemore Hospital for specialist treatment.
'The man and his partner were four days into their New Zealand sight-seeing and mountain biking holiday.”

Will this guy be charged for the chopper and all of the associated hospital costs or will it be covered by our very generous health system.? After all he is an Australian who hurt himself doing an activity which is fraught with danger so it is really a self inflicted injury not an accident.
