Sick student airlifted to hospital

A teenager who fell sick whilst on a school camp had to be airlifted to hospital yesterday.

The Tauranga-based Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Waitawheta Hut in the Upper Kaimai Range, south of the Karangahake Gorge.

A 14-year-old Warkworth school boy had suffered a medical condition as a result of an accident earlier in the week.

The accident happened while he was staying at the hut as part of a school camp, says pilot Liam Brettkelly.

The boy was airlifted to hospital due to the remote location of the camp.
