Te Puke to show caring side

A workshop in Te Puke this morning will highlight the need for everyone to lookout for one another.

Te Puke Caring Together is being held at the Te Puke Memorial Hall from 9am.

A workshop in Te Puke will focus on how the people can support one another.

'It takes a whole village to raise a child,” says Peter Miller, chair of the Te Puke Community Board.

'That is why our recently reviewed Te Puke Twenty Year Development Plan has a key action of increasing awareness of social and economic deprivation in our district”

Several key presenters will deliver background information.

This will be followed by general workshop discussion to explore what support systems are in place, what the gaps are and how more collaboration between groups, funders and government agencies can better target priorities for joint actions in 2016.

Te Puke Rotoehu Rural Woman New Zealand branch president Margaret Scrimgeour is hoping that local family and whanau social services and youth leaders will take this opportunity to share their experiences and agree on ways to work more closely together to secure a better deal for those who are vulnerable and slipping through the systems.

Others in the community will be able to hear what life is like for those who are not speaking out for themselves and why some feel disconnected from the good things happening around them,” says Margaret.

'That is why we are sponsoring this discussion as part of our efforts to help make our district a happier and more vibrant place to live.

'We are looking for strong support from a wide range of people who share this vision and want to make things happen.”

Awesome stuff, I hope it goes nationwide. Communities have become loosely knit-neighbours not knowing each other etc.
