A trimaran has run aground near the mouth of Hunter's Creek.

Its two occupants are safely ashore, uninjured, after being rescued by the harbourmaster's boat Taniwha.

The trimaran called Hummingbird had its rudder torn from its gudgeons, breaking the transom and allowing water into the centre hull.

Tauranga Volunteer Coastguard operations manager Simon Barker says the harbourmaster's boat was in the area at the time.
